![]() "When Marnie Was There" is one of my favourite films from Studio Ghibli and one of the best films of 2015. I wanted this film to keep going and going. ![]() Any questions or concerns you may have throughout the duration of this film, will be answered by the time the credits role, and if you end up enjoying this film as much as myself, you will not want that to happen. I truly do not have any complaints about this picture. Of all the films I have had the pleasure of seeing in 2015, this is definitely one of my favourites. As always, the animation is crafted to perfection and each element has meaning. This studio always knows how to write a compelling story and execute it in such a beautiful way. This film is truly magnificent for everything it sets itself up for, and the payoff is emotionally satisfying in every way. ![]() She comes across a young girl named Marnie and their friendship blossoms quickly and fiercely, leading to plot twists that will have you in tears. At the films core, it is about a young orphan girl, who is looking to find herself. Filled with trees, water, and an environment that she will feel at home in, we begin to see more of the inner-Anna as the film progresses. Following an introverted girl, outcast by her peers at school and being diagnosed with asthma, Anna is sent away to a relatives house in the country. "When Marnie Was There" is no exception to that statement. I also found this at the cinema lobby. There will never be enough words in the dictionary to describe how incredibly thought-provoking the films that come from Studio Ghibli are. Robinson, to see how it approaches its subject matter… I’ll have to track down the source novel by Joan G. ![]() Even if When Marnie Was There does not involve a literal spirit, it fits into a venerable old ghost story tradition. This is one of two main approaches to the genre, the other being the portrayal of the ghost as an essentially unknowable entity: M. I did not feel that the film encouraged a supernatural reading, although I wold be interested to find out of other viewers interpreted the story differently.įrom T he Castle of Otranto to The Shining, many of the best ghost stories play on the idea of the ghost as memory. I interpreted her as ultimately a construct of Anna’s imagination, inspired by suppressed memories of her grandmother from early childhood. Whether or not Marnie is a literal supernatural entity is left ambiguous. The studio has shown us nature spirits in Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, of course, and Grave of the Fireflies used ghosts as a prominent visual motif, but Marnie is the first to revolve around the spirit of a departed human: Marnie is eventually revealed to be protagonist Anna’s deceased grandmother. To the best of my knowledge (I am still missing a few of their films) When Marnie Was There is Ghibli’s first ghost story. Trailing behind the dual release of Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises and Isao Takahata’s The Tale of the Princess Kaguya by less than a year, When Marnie Was There is tasked with turning off the lights and lowering the shutters at Japanese animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli. And yeah, in terms of genre, When Marnie Was There did have an intriguing surprise for me. A magical coming-of-age story by one of Studio Ghibli’s most talented filmmakers. I knew absolutely nothing about the plot, but as a committed Ghibli fan, went in eager to be surprised. I went to see When Marnie Was There yesterday.

Decimort 2 – User Interface You can adjust the pre-amp gain, and of course the big re-sampler knob is what it’s all about. But you also get advanced features such as controllable jitter and dithering, plus a multimode filter. It can add that classic coloration and warmth of classic samplers of the old days. And this has quickly become my new favorite bitcrusher plugin! =) Decimort 2 – What is itĭecimort is a bitcrusher in the classic sense, but also a lot more. I’ve used it on anything from drums and percussion, to sound effects and rhythmic pulses. Mike here, and I’m going to talk to you about a really cool Bitcrusher Plugin I have start using, called Decimort 2 by D16 Group. Then a good bitcrusher plugin is what you need! =) This allows all path parameters to be set differently for each channel.Do you want to crush your sound into that old school retro vibe? From slight bitcrushing similar to the 90s lo-fi hip hop sound…all the way to complete retro 8-bit character. Decimort can process the right and left channels of a stereo signal completely independently. These can be used to smooth the sound or remove more of the sonic artefacts introduced into the signal path by the modelling process. Decimort is also equipped with analog like filters with adjustable resonance that allow further sculpting of the signal. A further very steep low-pass filter, synchronised to the signal frequency, can be applied at the end of the signal path to absolutely ensure that no unwanted out-of-band signals remain. Undesired artefacts are not present in the processed signal. The only aliasing effect present in the system is the modelled aliasing of the classic samplers. The complex and advanced signal processing algorithms within Decimort simulate the behaviour of the whole sampling path which exists in every AD/DA converter.

The series of pictures can be animated to “morph” from the current to the future. Both versions reflect the structural changes that faces undergo in the normal aging process. The picture is then processed within 55 seconds, producing a file of 21 pairs of pictures, beginning with two identical current pictures and progressing to two versions that illustrate how the participant might look in about 30 years (fig 1). If necessary, the operator can refine the position of the dots by dragging them with the mouse. When the picture is downloaded into the program, blue dots appear around the eyes, nose, and other “landmarks” of the face, identifying key positions to be employed in the aging progression. The participant’s sex and ethnic group are entered. The software is unique in that its wrinkling/aging algorithms are based upon photographs of a population cohort of 2000 persons and on published data regarding facial changes associated with aging therefore, the aging/wrinkling images are based in science and are not an artist’s rendition of aging or the effects of cigarettes on facial wrinkling.ĭemonstrations require approximately five minutes each, beginning with a photograph taken by a digital camera connected to the computer. The “At Face Value” adaptation is designed to add about 30 years to an adolescent face, in two versions: one as a non-smoker and another with the premature wrinkling and unhealthy skin tone of a pack-a-day smoker. The original version of this program ages a picture of an 8 year old child to approximately age 80. Digital Productions, Inc in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Task force members reviewed available literature on the association between smoking and premature facial wrinkling 4– 8 and provided parameters for customisation of the APRIL (age progression image launcher) program by its creators at C.O.R.E. ![]() 1– 3 Several of the students specifically recommended the use of computer imaging. Their idea is supported by studies suggesting that self image and perception of smoker stereotype can play a role in the decision to initiate smoking. Twenty four per cent of the 2000 entrants from across the state advised that knowledge of the unattractive effects of tobacco use would deter girls from smoking. The task force developed this program at the urging of young people who entered a 1998 essay contest in which middle and high school students were asked to submit their ideas for strategies to help girls reject tobacco. The Task Force for Tobacco-Free Women and Girls in New York State is utilising a computer software program that provides personalised, science based illustrations of how smoking can affect facial appearance. ![]()
